What should I do if I’ve got an STI?

  1. Get some advice from the staff at the GUM Clinic who will tell you what you should and shouldn’t do.
  2. Make sure whomever you have slept with is checked out and cleared of infection before having sex with you or anyone else. If you don’t want to tell them they may have an infection the clinic staff will do it for you (called ‘contact tracing). They will contact people you have slept with over a period of time but none of your details will be passed on – nobody will ever know it was you because this is an anonymous service.
  3. Avoid sex until the STI has been treated and has gone away.
  4. Always use a condom every time you have sex.

If you are worried about having an STI or even if you would just like to have a test, call the GUM Clinic for an appointment Halton – 01928 753 217 or St Helens 01744 671 212

Warning

Rashes, sores, burning, smelling, itching and generally feeling unwell are some symptoms that you may have an STI. BUT most people don’t have any signs or symptoms that they have an STI so always get checked!
