Coping with Thrush

Thrush is caused by an imbalance of bacteria and yeast which lives in the Vagina. The yeast is called ‘Candida Albicans’ which can breed very quickly.

Friendly bacteria in your Vagina fight against any infections but sometimes there can be a breakdown in the natural defence which is when thrush can set in and cause you discomfort and itching in the vaginal area.

Thrush can be caused by:

  • Taking antibiotics as they can sometimes kill the friendly bacteria as well as the nasty ones.
  • Using perfumed soaps.
  • Wearing tight trousers and underwear.

If you have thrush, make sure you inform your sexual partner as they will need to treat themselves to avoid the infection being passed backwards and forwards.

There are many treatments available from creams to capsules to treat thrush quickly and effectively. Speak to your Doctor or your phamracist for advice.
